No gym no problem. No weights no worries.
Try hitting the ground and using your body’s own considerable resistance to gravity to get a great total body workout that improves mobility and ramps up your metabolism to cremate those pesky calories that seem to linger as we age.
It may surprise you how this type of training promotes being powerfully capable and productive in the real world.
And not just in the modern confines of the gym where many seem to over estimate their true fitness capabilities until real life imposes its challenges upon them.
Don’t get me wrong – I will use highly productive resistance tools like kettlebells, sand bags and barbells in my workouts, but I highly value thoughtful body weight exercises to round out a solid fitness training program too.
I am constantly seeking out challenging and productive training opportunities that advance my performance and build upon my fitness base without pounding my body into oblivion, inviting injury or compromising my body’s ability to recover.
Here’s a demo involving body weight ground exercises you can do almost anywhere:
For maximum fitness value, I am combining the following exercises:
The Bear Crawl
Sit Through Exercise
The Timeless Pushup
So Why Train Like This?
These workouts are brief, yet challenging total body blitzers that promote strength, endurance, max calorie burn and cardio using full ranges of motion.
The terrain is a huge, often overlooked training variable most trainees give no thought to in their workouts – but can be a highly productive fitness game changer.
The uneven terrain and the constantly shifting nature of the sand really taxes your body to recruit every stabilizer muscle to compensate for training in this “live” environment.
This is a real core crusher too – as you will be putting your body through some quality dynamic “time under tension” before disengaging from these three exercises.
Try doing 2-4 rounds of this ground workout even if all you have is flat, stable ground to work with either indoors or outside – it will still give you a challenge.
Just make sure you don’t hold your breath throughout the movements and take a 1 minute rest between rounds – scaling this rest time up or down depending on your fitness recovery level.
When we expand our fitness horizon beyond the artificial confines of the gym, we just may be pleasantly surprised at the results, productivity, time efficiency and fun we are missing out on.
Do not ever be hesitant to break from the fitness herd if you want superior results, a capable body built for go and show and a high quality physical lifestyle.
