Here’s the reality – Most people are employees, not legit business owners in this country.
Few people will put the effort, risk and sacrifice into operating a business and taking on the responsibility of providing financially for employees and by extension the family’s of employees.
So if you decide to be an employee (and the overwhelming majority of folks do,) why not strive to be the most solid, sought after employee you can be and write your own career ticket?
Good employers will want to keep you around, reward you and treat you well.
Look around – It really doesn’t take a supreme effort to distinguish yourself from the average disengaged employee in most organizations.
Practice and demonstrate the traits on this list and you will position yourself for upward mobility and greater rewards in the work place.
A valuable employee will usually get their pick of choice employment and rewards. An average or “do the bare minimum” type of employee will almost always be the most expendable in an organization and be rewarded the least.
This is how it works in the real world regardless if your value system thinks it fair or not.
So learn the rules of the employment landscape, practice them and flourish or ignore them and stay stagnant, flounder and collect meager rewards at best.
And remember, a lot of these traits listed above have to do with character.
And yes- character still counts in this day and age – at least with me.
